How to Measure Windows for Blinds
Ordering custom blinds ensures a perfect look, but it relies on one critical step: measuring. Don't worry, it's easier than you think. You just need a steel tape measure (cloth tapes stretch) and a notepad.
Step 1: Decide on the Mount
Recess Fit (Inside Mount): The blind sits inside the window frame. This is the neatest look and ideal if you have attractive architraves you want to show off.
Face Fit (Outside Mount): The blind sits on the wall above the window frame. This is better for blocking more light or if your window frame isn't deep enough.
Step 2: Measuring for Recess Fit
- Width: Measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of the inside of the frame. Record the smallest measurement. This ensures the blind won't get stuck.
- Drop (Height): Measure the height at the left, middle, and right. Record the longest measurement.
Step 3: Measuring for Face Fit
- Width: Measure the width of the architrave (frame) or how wide you want the blind to be. We recommend adding at least 50mm to each side for better light blockage.
- Drop (Height): Measure from where you want the top of the blind to sit down to the bottom of the sill (or lower).
